Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the importance of roof venting? Proper roof venting is critical for air circulation in your attic, regulating temperature and moisture buildup, and ensuring the longest possible life of your roof. It helps to maintain indoor comfort. Improper venting can cause damage to your roof and make your electric bill soar. It can also cause unnecessary strain on your heating and air conditioning system. 2. What's the average life expectancy of a roof in Florida? A 25 year shingle typically lasts 17-20 years in Florida. This is due to the extreme weather conditions we experience: intense sun, high humidity, and lots of rainfall, in addition to northeasters, tropical storms, and hurricanes. 3. Are permits and inspections required for a roof replacement? Absolutely. Always use a licensed and certified contractor registered to do business in your county. The cost of pulling the permit is built into your roof replacement estimate. Typically, two inspections are required. The dry-in inspection certifies that waterproofing and sealing was done correctly before the shingles are installed. It ensures the the roof is properly protected against water intrusion and meets state building codes. The final inspection ensures that the remainder of the roof was installed correctly. We can provide you with a Certificate of Completion showing that the building inspector passed our inspections upon request. 4. What payment methods do you accept? We accept Visa and MasterCard only. All transactions are encrypted for your safety. We also accept personal checks and cashiers checks. 5. How do I know if I need a roof replacement or just a repair? What are signs to look for? In Jacksonville's hot, humid, climate, shingles often wear out faster than in other parts of the country. There are a number of signs that indicate whether your shingle roof may need repairs or replacement. If you're seeing cracked or curling shingles, missing granules, frequent leaks, or your roof is 15+ years old, it may be time for a full roof replacement. If parts of your roof look raised or sunken, or your shingles look "shiny", it may be time for a new roof. The "shiny" look is caused by the fiberglass showing through on a worn shingle. Our team at White's Roofing Company will inspect your roof and give you honest advice on whether a repair or replacement makes the most sense. 6. Do you offer free estimates? Absolutely! We offer free estimates for both repairs and replacements, provided you are the homeowner. Give us a call! 7. Do you provide warranties? All roof replacements come with a 5 year workmanship warranty. If you are replacing your second roof with us, we offer a lifetime workmanship warranty; we have been in business so long (25 years!) that our happy customers who contracted with us to install a new roof 20 or 25 years ago are now returning to us for their next roof! The shingle manufacturers offer their own warranties on the shingles themselves; their warranty information can be found on their respective websites. 8. How long does it typically take to replace a roof? And what happens if it starts to rain while you're working? Most shingle roof replacements in Jacksonville can be completed in 1 - 3 days, depending on the size of the home and weather conditions. At White's Roofing Company, we work efficiently while protecting your property from debris and inclement weather, while ensuring your new roof is installed to the highest standards. We carry tarps on all our vehicles and will immediately stop working and protect your roof from any water damage if it begins to rain. 9. Do you use subcontractors? Absolutely not! All of our employees work directly for us and are on our payroll. And we treat our employees like they're family! As a result, many of them have been roofing with us for years. One foreman has been with us since we started the company 25 years ago, and the other has been with us for 15 years! We have very little turnover here, because it's such a great place to work! 10. What type of roofing lasts the longest in Florida's climate? Architectural shingles are one of the best choices for Jacksonville homeowners, because they're durable, cost effective, and built to withstand Florida's heavy rains and heat. We also offer roof coatings and modified bitumen systems for flat or low sloped roofs. 11. Why should I choose White's Roofing Company over other Jacksonville roofing companies? We're a second generation, family owned roofing business with over 40 years of experience servicing Jacksonville homeowners. Unlike big box contractors, we focus on personal service, honest recommendations, and craftsmanship that lasts. Most of our new business comes from referrals from existing happy customers, because we treat every roof as if it were our own, and do it all for a fair price.
